At Hirschfeld, living green is a way of life.
We work together with our residents to cultivate a standard of living that promotes recycling and a paperless environment, that saves water and conserves energy.
What Hirschfeld is doing…
Energy Conservation
- Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs – We use energy efficient light bulbs in apartments and common areas to save on electricity.
- Water Saving Devices – There are water saving devices in all units to save you money, and our earth’s resources.
- Recycling Zones – We have recycling centers at each of our communities dispersed throughout the properties. Here you can dispose of your recyclables without sorting, paper, plastics or glass.
- Energy-Efficient Appliances – As appliances need replacing, energy saving appliances are installed to save you money on your utility bills.
- Energy Audits – We periodically engage independent consultants to inspect our communities, evaluate our utility consumption, and advise us on what we can do to do more.
What you can do…
- Lights Out – Turn off all lights when you leave a room. Replace incandescent light bulbs with EPA ENERGY STAR-qualified compact fluorescents (CFL) or light-emitting diodes (LED).
- Power Down – Home electronics such as computers, TVs and printers use power even when idle. Turn your electronics off or unplug them when not in use.
- Master the Stairs – At the office, or when you are out…take the stairs instead. You will conserve elevator energy use and get a good workout!
- Avoid the Rat Race – Instead of driving yourself to work every day, try carpooling, taking public transit or riding your bike.
- Recycle your Electronic Devices – These devices can be valuable resources for secondary raw materials when recycled; but if they are disposed of in the trash these can be a dangerous source of toxins & carcinogens. Learn more about the Importance of Electronic Recycling and where to recycle here.
